Got myself a modded 3DS and playing PS1, DS, SNES and GBA games lately, in particular I’ve gotten about 7 hours into MGS1, and a few minutes into Pokemon Black 2 and FFVI Advance >D. Curious, what games have you emulated most recently, and what did you think of them?
There’s something about playing a cinematic PS1 game like MGS1 on my non-XL 3DS, it’s a perfect fit! I also have never played MGS1, only got to see it being played when I was a kid. I’ve played 4 & 5, and some of MGS3, so I know the story-world pretty good, and now playing MGS1 it’s fun seeing where a lot of threads of those games started >D. Snake sure does talk about Meryl’s butt a lot too . I’ve juuuuust gotten to Ocelot’s torture chamber xD.
The top-down view does make some of the gameplay annoying when like, psycho mantis is off-screen and chucking stuff at me, but it’s a game of its time & that time’s limitations. Not enough to dissuade me!
Last year I modded my PSP Go (with @theHOG’s help) and finally finished Megaman Legends, which is such a criminally underrated game. Definitely has some crazy pop-in and draw distance fog but those are more limitations of the era, and the controls are ridiculous (even moreso on the PSP which literally doesn’t have enough buttons for even officially released PS1 games!) but in its defense, it’s pre-twin-sticks and Halo rewired everyone’s brains after it came out so it gets a pass there.
But the real reason to play this game is the characters and art style! It’s almost every voice acted in English and everyone’s personality shines through so well, especially the Bonnes as comedic villains. Hmmm, maybe I should start Legends 2 soon…
