The name’s Spencer, and I’m part of the TokenAE team! I’ve made videos for a while now on my YouTube channel, titled AceBonanza. Now, I’m cooking up some content in the same vein for TokenAE! I’m heading a series called Gamevania – a snazzy title that describes how the videos explore all different interesting corners of each game!
Anywho, the first official Gamevania video has arrived for all you Tokenheads. I played Yu-Gi-Oh! Forbidden Memories a ton growing up, so I thought it’d be fun to talk about this wacky little oddity.
Let me know your thoughts on the video and if you ever played the game yourself. I’ve got the subject for the next vid set, and it’ll be coming out in February!
I KNEW if we signed that contract nothing but good would happen, serves us all right! Damn us all to the beach!
Hexcellent episode comrade, this Yugi fellow is pretty cool. Did this game in fact warn us about those AI bastards? I think it did. Also I must say seeing Pokemon in 3D for the first time as a kid was just like you described. I forgot about that memory… oh I was so happy!
It’s wild to hear you talk about Ho-oh appearing in the first pokémon episode because I was literally talking about that last night! Crazy!
Also, as a kid I had two editions of the french dragonball manga that were, coincidentally, at the start of the Buu saga, during the time the Cell saga was airing here and I felt similarly insane seeing what sort of stuff was coming up! I gotta dig those up, there’s probably some hilarious weird french translations in there…
Dark Duel Stories is another weiiird yugioh game. Its barely yugioh, has two seperate weakness rock paper scissors loops, and also lets you combine 2 cards to make your own monster. And a really funky but creepy OST.
I played a ton of Dark Duel Stories! Those early Yu-Gi-Oh! games definitely had some strange and kind of creepy vibes. I really love early works in big series that get real weird with it.
